About the company

Our client is an established Canadian shipping operator with an owned and operated dry bulk fleet trading on key domestic and international trade routes. The business has a long and respected history in the Canadian maritime sector and is committed to the highest standards of safety, environmental performance and crew welfare. This is a management-level, non-unionized appointment within a professionally run operation that invests in its seafarers and their long-term development.

About the role

This is a senior shipboard leadership role carrying full responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of a dry bulk vessel within our client's fleet. As Master, you will serve as the company's representative on board, with overriding authority and responsibility in all matters relating to the safety of the crew, protection of the environment and the commercial interests of the business.

The role is well suited to an experienced and credentialed sea-going professional looking for a long-term management appointment within a well-run and reputable Canadian shipping operation.

What you will be doing

You will hold overall command of the vessel, with full accountability for the safety and welfare of the crew and any contractors on board, the safe carriage and protection of cargo, and the environmental integrity of the operation at all times. As the company's senior representative on board, you will ensure that all operations are conducted in full compliance with the Canada Shipping Act and associated Regulations, the Canada Labour Code, the ISM Code and the company's management system and ISO-certified standards (ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001).

Your responsibilities will encompass the planning and execution of safe voyages, active management of all on-board risks, and oversight of day-to-day operations across safety, seamanship and commercial performance. You will champion a strong safety culture, lead the crew in maintaining the highest operational standards, and ensure that the owner's commercial interests are protected throughout the voyage.
